Description

FLI Aurora CMOS Camera AR411

The Aurora CMOS Camera AR411 from Finger Lakes Instrumentation (FLI) is a true scientific-grade imaging camera designed for demanding research and professional astronomy applications. Built around the large-format Sony IMX411 back-illuminated CMOS sensor, the AR411 delivers exceptional sensitivity, extremely low noise, and outstanding image quality across a very wide field of view.

With a massive resolution of 14,192 × 10,640 pixels and a 66.7 mm sensor diagonal, the AR411 is ideal for wide-field astronomical imaging, survey work, and scientific observations where both fine detail and large sky coverage are required. The 3.76 µm pixel size provides an excellent balance between resolution and sensitivity, making the camera suitable for use with a wide range of optical systems.

The AR411 offers very high quantum efficiency (around 90%), allowing it to capture faint signals with remarkable efficiency. Combined with very low read noise and extremely low dark current, this camera performs exceptionally well in long-exposure imaging and low-light conditions. The 16-bit digitization ensures a wide dynamic range, preserving subtle brightness differences in scientific data.

Designed to meet observatory-level standards, the Aurora AR411 features robust cooling, stable electronics, and high-speed data transfer via USB-3 / QSFP interfaces. It is fully compatible with FLI Pilot software and SDK, allowing seamless integration into professional observatories, automated imaging systems, and research workflows.

Manufactured in the USA, the FLI Aurora CMOS AR411 is a reliable and precise imaging solution for astronomers and researchers who require uncompromising performance, accuracy, and long-term stability.

  FLI Aurora CMOS Camera AR411

Sensor – Sony IMX411

This camera uses the Sony IMX411, a large-format, back-illuminated CMOS sensor.
It is designed for scientific imaging and offers very high sensitivity and low noise.

Sensor Size – 66.7 mm

The sensor has a very large diagonal size of 66.7 mm.
This allows wide-field imaging and captures a large area of the sky in one exposure.

Resolution – 14,192 × 10,640 pixels

This extremely high resolution provides very fine detail.
It is ideal for scientific measurements, surveys, and large astronomical objects.

Pixel Size – 3.76 µm

Each pixel measures 3.76 microns.
This pixel size offers a good balance between image sharpness and light sensitivity.

Bit Depth – 16-bit

The camera records images with 16-bit depth.
This allows over 65,000 brightness levels, preserving subtle details in faint objects.

Full Well Capacity – 50,000 e⁻

Full well capacity shows how many electrons a pixel can hold before saturation.
A high value like 50 ke⁻ helps capture bright objects without losing detail.

Read Noise – 1 e⁻

Read noise is the electronic noise added during image readout.
With only about 1 electron of noise, very faint signals can be detected clearly.

Dark Current – 0.002 e⁻/pixel/sec at −20 °C

Dark current is unwanted signal caused by heat inside the sensor.
This extremely low value makes the camera excellent for long-exposure imaging.

Shutter – Rolling

The camera uses a rolling shutter, where rows are read sequentially.
This is common in CMOS sensors and works well for most astronomical applications.

Peak Quantum Efficiency – 91%

Quantum efficiency shows how efficiently light is converted into signal.
A peak value of 91% means the camera captures most incoming photons.

Interface – USB 3 / QSFP

These high-speed interfaces transfer large image data quickly and reliably.
They are suitable for professional observatories and data-intensive workflows.

Frame Rate – 2 frames per second

At full resolution and 16-bit depth, the camera captures up to 2 fps.
This speed is optimized for high-quality scientific imaging rather than video.
