Description
ZWO ASI174MM Monochrome CMOS Camera – Precision Imaging for Solar, Lunar & Planetary Astrophotography
The ASI174MM is one of ZWO’s most trusted monochrome cameras, designed for astrophotographers who demand speed, precision, and excellent image quality. Built around the Sony IMX174 Exmor CMOS sensor, this camera delivers outstanding performance for solar, lunar, planetary, and even select deep-sky imaging applications.
What truly sets the ASI174MM apart is its Pregius global shutter technology, which captures all pixels simultaneously. This eliminates image distortion caused by motion, atmospheric turbulence, or vibrations—making it an excellent choice for high-resolution solar and lunar work where stability and timing are critical.
High-Performance Sony IMX174 Sensor
At the heart of the ASI174MM is a 1/1.2” monochrome CMOS sensor with a resolution of 1936 × 1216 pixels and large 5.86 µm pixels. These large pixels provide strong signal capture, low noise, and excellent dynamic range, even at high frame rates.
The Sony Exmor architecture uses column-parallel analog-to-digital conversion, resulting in:
- Faster readout speeds
- Lower noise levels
- Reduced power consumption
With a peak quantum efficiency of around 77%, the ASI174MM is highly sensitive and well-suited for capturing fine surface details and subtle contrast variations.
Designed for High-Speed Imaging
The ASI174MM excels in high-frame-rate imaging:
- Up to 164.5 fps at 10-bit
- Up to 128.2 fps at 12-bit at full resolution
The Region of Interest (ROI) mode allows you to select specific areas of the sensor, pushing frame rates even higher—perfect for planetary imaging and lucky imaging techniques.
Reliable Connectivity & Autoguiding Support
- USB 3.0 ensures maximum data throughput, allowing the camera to operate at full speed without bottlenecks.
- ST4 autoguider port enables direct connection to your mount for guiding, making the ASI174MM a versatile option for imaging setups that require precise tracking.
Compact Back Focus for Flexible Imaging Trains
With the T2 11 mm ring removed, the ASI174MM offers an ultra-short 6.5 mm back focus, making it easy to integrate into complex imaging trains with filters, Barlows, or solar imaging accessories.
