Description
A compact optical instrument for both nature and sky observation
The Celestron C90 Mak is designed for users who need long-range optical performance in a compact and portable body. Its 90 mm aperture and 1250 mm focal length (f/13.9) make it particularly effective for observing distant terrestrial subjects while also delivering detailed views of the Moon and bright planets. Thanks to its Maksutov-Cassegrain optical design, it provides sharp, high-contrast images without the size and weight associated with larger telescopes. At only 2.1 kg and 40 cm long, it is easy to transport and well suited for travel, wildlife observation, and outdoor activities.
Long focal length for detailed observations
The telescope's 1250 mm focal length naturally favors high magnification and detailed viewing. The included 32 mm Plössl eyepiece provides 39× magnification, making it easy to observe distant subjects while maintaining comfortable eye relief and image brightness. Its 90 mm aperture gathers approximately 165 times more light than the human eye, allowing users to see significantly more detail than with binoculars alone. This makes it useful for observing birds, landscapes, ships, mountain ranges, and lunar features.
Maksutov optics deliver sharp, high-contrast images
The Maksutov-Cassegrain design combines lenses and mirrors to reduce optical aberrations while maintaining a compact body. Unlike many small refractors, this optical system produces very little chromatic aberration, resulting in cleaner edges and improved contrast. The multi-coated optics further improve light transmission and help reduce unwanted reflections. Combined with a theoretical resolution of 1.53 arcseconds, the telescope can reveal fine details on the Moon and provide clear planetary observations under good conditions.
Designed for both terrestrial and astronomical use
The included 45° erect-image diagonal produces correctly oriented images, making terrestrial observation intuitive and comfortable. This allows the C90 Mak to function as a spotting scope during the day while remaining capable of astronomical observations at night. Although its narrow 1.3° field of view is not ideal for wide deep-sky surveys, it excels at observing the Moon, Jupiter, Saturn, and other bright celestial objects that benefit from its long focal length.
Photography-ready for digiscoping
Built-in T-adapter threads allow direct connection to compatible DSLR cameras, opening the door to digiscoping and basic lunar photography. Users can document wildlife, landscapes, and bright astronomical objects without requiring additional adapters. Its compatibility with standard tripods and photographic accessories also allows users to build a setup tailored to their preferred observing style.
Built for outdoor use
The C90 Mak is designed for regular field use. Its rubber-armored exterior improves durability, while its water-resistant construction helps protect the instrument during changing weather conditions. The included heavy-duty backpack makes transportation easier and helps protect the telescope between observing sessions, making it a practical companion for travel and outdoor activities.
