Description
Coronado SolarMax III 70 Double Stack Solar Scope with BF10
Introducing the Coronado SolarMax III 70mm refractor, an exceptional telescope tailored to unveil the captivating details of our nearest celestial body, the Sun. Crafted for versatility and portability, it comes complete with a durable hard-shelled carrying case with foam interior, ensuring that you can take this hydrogen-alpha (H-α) telescope wherever your astronomical adventures lead you — whether it’s in your own backyard or chasing the next solar eclipse around the globe!
Designed and meticulously manufactured in North America, the SolarMax III 70mm boasts a double-stacked system comprising two front external 60mm air-spaced etalons. This innovative configuration allows for unparalleled views of the most stunning part of the solar spectrum — Hydrogen-alpha light (6562.8 Angstroms). With an ultra-narrow bandpass of <0.5 Angstroms (Å), this telescope delivers exceptional contrast, revealing prominences cascading from the solar disk and an array of surface features including sunspots, filaments, active flare regions, plages, and surface granulation. Compared to its single-stack counterpart (>0.7 Å bandpass), the double-stack system enhances contrast even further, resulting in enhanced visibility of filaments, flares, and surface granulation detail, making it a worthy investment for solar enthusiasts.
Integral to its safety features is the 10mm blocking filter (BF10), situated inside the diagonal holder beneath the eyepiece. Comprising multiple internal filters such as the Induced Transmission Filter (ITF), Long Wave Pass filter (LWP), and H-a cut-off filter, the BF10 ensures a secure viewing experience. Moreover, the SolarMax III 70mm features a 400mm focal length (f/5.7) refractor with a 70mm objective lens, providing a clean, high-contrast image across the field of view.
Achieving optimal contrast in solar observation is made effortless with Coronado’s patented RichView tuning technology. This innovative system adjusts the distance between the parallel glass plates of the outer external etalon, ensuring precise wavelength bandpass calibration while maintaining optical alignment. Coupled with the included T-Max Tuner, which eliminates reflections and fine-tunes image brightness, the RichView technology offers unparalleled image tuning for an unparalleled viewing experience.

But the SolarMax III isn’t limited to solar observation alone. Its versatility extends to night sky astronomy and daytime spotting. With its external etalons and blocking filter, you can easily transform it into a 70mm wide-field doublet refractor, perfect for exploring planets, star clusters, and even brighter nebulae and galaxies. During the day, it doubles as a fantastic spotting scope for birdwatching or admiring distant vistas.
Equipped with a backlash-free 2″ dual-speed rack & pinion focuser and a Sol Ranger Solar Finder for easy solar alignment, the SolarMax III 70mm comes complete with an 18mm CEMAX eyepiece, Vixen-style dovetail mounting rail, and a sleek black and silver aluminum hard carry case.
Whether capturing stunning solar phenomena with a camera or immersing yourself in the wonders of the night sky, the SolarMax III 70mm offers an unparalleled viewing experience. Hand-assembled and solar-tested before sealing, it ensures top-notch quality and safety compliance with ISO 12312-2 specifications for solar viewing.
