The ZWO AM5N is a next-generation harmonic drive mount that blends power, portability, and precision into one compact design. Building on the success of the original AM5, the AM5N introduces improved tracking accuracy, higher payload capacity, Bluetooth connectivity, and cleaner cable management, making it an outstanding choice for astrophotographers and visual observers alike.

Power Meets Portability

Despite weighing just 5.5 kg (12 lbs), the AM5N can carry 15 kg (33 lbs) without counterweights and up to 20 kg (44 lbs) with a counterweight, giving you the freedom to mount heavier telescopes and imaging setups while still keeping your gear travel-friendly. Thanks to its strain wave gear system, most setups don’t require counterweights, making it easy to pack, transport, and set up anywhere—from your backyard to remote dark-sky locations.

Developed in collaboration with well-known strain wave gear manufacturers, this motor is tailored for astrophotography, offering ultra-low periodic error, stable transmission, and high torque output. Each mount is tested to ensure a periodic error within ±10 arcseconds, guaranteeing its performance.

Flexible Operating Modes

Switch effortlessly between equatorial (EQ) mode for long-exposure imaging and alt-azimuth mode for quick visual sessions or planetary imaging. Its full 0–90° latitude range means the AM5N can be used virtually anywhere on Earth, whether you’re setting up at home or traveling abroad.

Smarter Connectivity & Cable Management

The AM5N introduces Bluetooth and Wi-Fi control, so you can connect wirelessly without juggling network connections. Its integrated cable management system routes power and data through the mount’s body, reducing clutter and preventing snags. A 12V DC output on the saddle allows you to power accessories directly, keeping your setup clean and efficient.

Seamless Software Integration

Control the AM5N via the ZWO ASI Mount app, ASIAIR, ASCOM, INDI, or SkySafari. The included rocker-style hand controller provides both manual control and wireless connectivity. For those using ZWO’s ASIAIR system, the AM5N integrates perfectly, letting you control your entire astrophotography setup—mount, camera, filter wheel, and more—from a single app.
