Description

Are you looking to buy camera for astrophotography with high performance? Or do you need exceptional precision, sensitivity, and durability for your scientific or industrial imaging applications? We offer the FLI Kepler series cameras with high performance to meet all your advanced imaging needs.

Kepler KL4040 FI sCMOS Camera

The Kepler KL4040 sCMOS cooled camera, beside the Kepler KL400 camera, is introduced by FLI in 2018 as part of its Kepler series. These cameras, either with back-illuminated (BI) or front-illuminated (FI) sensors, are well-known for their ultra-high sensitivity, low noise, and fast frame rates. Compared to the popular KAF-16803 CCD, the Kepler KL4040 sCMOS offers similar sensitivity, imaging area, and pixel size but with a fraction of the noise and higher quantum efficiency.

With exceptional UV sensitivity, the camera delivers superb performance even at high frame rates. Having all these advanced features, you can buy KL4040 camera at a ground-breaking price-to-performance ratio for a wide range of applications where high sensitivity, precision, and low-noise imaging are vital. This, for instance, includes astrophotography, orbital debris detection, photometry, super-resolution microscopy, forensic science, and photocell inspection. (Note: KL4040 cameras cannot be used for electron microscopy applications.)

GSense4040 CMT Front-illuminated G2 Sensor

At the heart of the Kepler KL4040 FI G2 is the GSense4040 CMT FSI G2 sensor, a front-illuminated CMOS sensor of grade 2 from Gpixel. This sensor offers 16.8 MP resolution with 9 μm × 9 μm pixel size and a large photosensitive area of 36.8 mm x 36.8 mm (52 mm diagonal). CMT sensors are monochrome with microlens array and sealed with D263®T lids and covered by anti-reflective coating on both sides, making them perfect sensors for medical and astronomical applications. The low readout noise and high sensitivity make it an ideal sensor for capturing detailed images, even in low-light conditions, as in astrophotography. This sensor is perfectly made for applications requiring high-performance large-format imaging.

Sensor Quality

In terms of quality, the GSense4040 FI sensors are available in different grades (0, 1, and 2) with each grade representing a trade-off between performance and cost. The following table shows the difference in defective properties of various grade qualities:

Having fewer defective pixels than GSense4040 back-illuminated grade 2, the GSense4040 front-illuminated G2 sensor is still a high-quality choice for low-light applications such as astrophotography, industrial imaging, and scientific research, at lower prices at a lower price.

16-bit Performance

The Kepler cameras support a single 12-bit read aiming for maximum speed. In order to achieve a full 16-bit dynamic range, the camera performs two reads at different gain levels, then merges the images using FLI’s exclusive algorithms. This ensures a highly linear HDR (High Dynamic Range) image for precise quantitative analysis.

QSFP Fiber Interface (Optional)

While the standard USB 3.0 interface provides reliable high-speed connectivity, the optional QSFP fiber interface allows for higher throughput, long-distance connections, and electrical isolation which make the Kepler series even more versatile.

Reliability and Longevity

The Kepler KL4040 camera is engineered to be reliable, even in the most remote environments. Thanks to its unique chamber design, regular maintenance such as desiccant replacement is not required. This design ensures long-lasting performance, whether in remote observatories or challenging field conditions.

Service & Support

The Kepler Cameras come with unrivaled service and support.

Firmware: Field-programmable cameras allow you to easily upgrade and re-program them from anywhere in the world. The cameras are compatible with software platforms like MicroManager, MATLAB, LabVIEW, and ASCOM.

Hardware: Key components such as the shutter, fan, and digital board are easily replaceable, eliminating the need for expensive factory repairs.

Extreme Durability: Kepler cameras are built for long-term use and are installed in remote observatories worldwide, from Antarctica to Finland, in universities, and laboratory facilities.
