Description
QHY miniCAM8 – High-Performance Cooled Camera with Sony IMX585 Sensor
The QHY miniCAM8 is a compact powerhouse built for serious astrophotographers who need both high sensitivity and portability. Equipped with Sony’s IMX585 CMOS sensor, this camera offers stunning results in both deep-sky and planetary imaging. Despite its small size—just over 4 inches wide—it doesn’t cut corners. It includes true dual-stage TEC cooling, a zero amp glow design, a built-in 8-position filter wheel, and excellent performance in the near-infrared range.
Whether you're capturing dim nebulae or the fine details of Jupiter, the miniCAM8 delivers quality, reliability, and convenience in one neat package.
Key Features
- High Quantum Efficiency: 92% peak QE in the visible spectrum, with exceptional sensitivity in near-infrared.
- Sony Starvis II IMX585 Sensor: Back-illuminated CMOS for greater full-well capacity and less image noise.
- Zero Amp Glow: Cleaner deep-sky images with no amplifier glow artifacts.
- Dual-Stage Cooling: Achieves up to -45°C below ambient for ultra-low thermal noise in long exposures.
- Linearity HDR Mode: Improved dynamic range (up to 15.5 stops) with smoother tonal transitions.
- Built-In Filter Wheel: 8-position motorized carousel for easy switching between LRGB and narrowband filters.
- Anti-Dew Protection: Heated optical window and humidity control system to prevent fogging in all conditions.
- Compact and Versatile: Fits 1.25", 2", and C-mount setups, perfect for travel or tight setups.
LRGB+SHO Filter Set for miniCAM8
The astronomical filters for the miniCAM8 are custom-designed to match the specific characteristics of the cameras. The size is 19 mm * 12 mm * 1.1 mm. The LRGB and SHO narrowband filters for the miniCAM8M are customized by XiMei Filters. The LRGB filters have an optical density (OD) value of 3, while the narrowband filters have an OD value of 5.
The OD value, as a physical measure of the degree of light attenuation after passing through a filter, directly affects the filter’s ability to suppress unwanted light during imaging. A higher OD value indicates stronger suppression of stray light, effectively blocking most unnecessary light sources and thereby enhancing image contrast and detail clarity.
