Description

Sky-Watcher Quattro 150P f/4 Newtonian telescope is an affordable, large aperture astrograph, ideal for users searching for a fast-imaging system that will work for both astrophotography and visual astronomy. Boasting a swift f/4 focal ratio, this astrograph can produce an exposure 6x faster than the average 8-inch f/10 Schmidt Cassegrain telescope (or 8.4x faster with the included coma corrector/reducer). Although designed as an imaging optical tube, these Newtonians also produce bright and detailed viewing for visual astronomy.

Like all Sky-Watcher reflectors, the Quattro Imaging Newtonian features borosilicate mirrors coated with Sky-Watcher’s proprietary Radiant ™ Aluminum Quartz (RAQ™) coatings, producing 94% reflectivity. The tube is constructed with rolled steel, then coated with Sky-Watcher’s signature glossy metal-flake Black Diamond finish. The OTA uses an oversized secondary mirror providing greater illumination for DSLRs and CCDs using full-frame sensors, and an included coma corrector/reducer for those who want to take their imaging to the next level.

Included with the Quattro Newtonian is a 11:1 dual-speed 2-inch Crayford-style focuser, 1.25 and 2-inch eyepiece adapters, a 6x30 finderscope, tube rings, V-style dovetail plate, a 70° Ultra-Wide 22mm eyepiece, and coma corrector/reducer.

Whether you’re deep in pursuit of galaxies, nebulae, or planetary detail, the Sky-Watcher Quattro 150P stands out as a top-tier, high-speed imaging telescope. It delivers fast exposure times, pristine optical quality, full-field correction, and portability—making it one of the smartest investments for serious astro-imagers who demand performance without compromise.

Features & Benefits of the Sky-Watcher Quattro 150P

1. Fast Optics: f/4 (native) and f/3.45 with Corrector

  • Feature: Native focal ratio of f/4; becomes even faster at f/3.45 when using the included coma corrector/reducer.
  • Benefit: Enables exposure times up to 6× shorter than typical 8-inch f/10 Schmidt–Cassegrain telescopes (or up to 8.4× faster with the corrector), making it ideal for capturing deep-sky details under limited clear-sky conditions.

2. High-Quality Mirrors & Coatings

  • Feature: Parabolic borosilicate primary mirror with Sky-Watcher’s proprietary Radiant™ Aluminum Quartz (RAQ™) coatings, offering ~94% reflectivity.
  • Benefit: Excellent light gathering efficiency and thermal stability; borosilicate glass “cools down” faster, reducing wait times before imaging.

3. Precision Dual-Speed Crayford-Style Focuser

  • Feature: 2-inch dual-speed Crayford (11:1 or 10:1 depending on listing) focuser with smooth, backlash-free movement.
  • Benefit: Enables extremely fine focusing, even with heavy imaging gear, and ensures stability and minimal image shift during sessions.

4. Coma Corrector/Reducer Included

  • Feature: Aplanatic coma corrector with 4-element optical design—including ED element; M48 camera thread and 55 mm back focus. Benefit: Provides flatter, sharper stars across the field—especially useful for APS-C sensors and smaller cameras—enhancing image quality significantly.

5. Oversized Secondary Mirror

  • Feature: Large secondary mirror design ensures better illumination for full-frame DSLR/CCD sensors.
  • Benefit: Maximizes the usable imaging area, delivering uniform brightness even at the corners of larger sensor arrays.

6. Accessories Included

  • Feature: Comes with tube rings, Vixen-style dovetail bar, 1.25” & 2” eyepiece adapters, 6×30 finderscope, and a 70° ultrawide 22 mm eyepiece.
  • Benefit: Ready-to-use straight out of the box for both visual observing and astrophotography; saves extra cost and setup hassle.

7. Compact & Manageable Design

  • Feature: OTA weighs just 5.7 kg (≈12.6 lb) and is under 60 cm in length.
  • Benefit: Easy to transport and mount on a variety of telescope tripods or equatorial mounts—convenient for field use or quick setups.

8. Versatile for Both Imaging & Visual Observation

  • Feature: Although built for imaging, it also performs well visually. Sharp, detailed views of planets, clusters, and deep-sky objects are possible.
  • Benefit: Dual-purpose capability adds flexibility—perfect for late-night astrophotography and casual observing alike.

9. Affordable Astrograph Performance

  • Feature: High-end imaging specs at a competitive price.
  • Benefit: Exceptional value for astrophotographers who want large aperture and fast optics without breaking the budget.

10. Review Highlights & Considerations

  • Praise: Reviewers loved the fast, compact design and impressive imaging and visual performance—e.g., sharp views of Jupiter, Double Cluster, Andromeda, Pleiades, even solar eclipses.
